Are you preparing to become an IBM Certified Professional? Welcome to the Maximo Mentor Series, a comprehensive, multi-part guide designed to help you master the IBM Maximo Manage v9.0 Functional Deployment – Professional certification (Exam C1000-183).

When the exam was developed, Subject Matter Experts defined the exact tasks, configurations, and knowledge required for this professional role. Our blog series follows this exact blueprint. Throughout this series, we won’t just teach you how to perform critical deployment tasks—we will explain why they are essential to business processes and what happens if they are configured incorrectly.

Here is a highlight reel of what you can expect as we break down the nine core exam sections:

1. Maximo Application Suite (10%)

We kick off the series by exploring the foundational MAS deployment, which is supported exclusively on Red Hat OpenShift. You will learn the capabilities of core applications like Health for performance scoring and Predict for forecasting asset degradation. We also decode user administration, including identity providers (SAML, LDAP) and AppPoint entitlement tiers ranging from Self-Service up to System Configuration.

2. Financial Configuration (5%)

Get your financial house in order. We will guide you through configuring organization-specific Chart of Accounts and GL Component structures. You will also learn how to establish Budget Monitoring focal points and manage Asset Depreciation schedules using methods like Straight Line or Double Declining Balance.

3. Platform Configuration (26%)

As the most heavily weighted section of the exam, this is where we spend the most time! We dive deep into the core architecture, covering the setup of Organizations, Sites, and Sets. We unpack the complexities of Security Groups and data restrictions, and explore the Database Configuration application. For the automation enthusiasts, we break down Automation Scripting launch points and variables, Workflow process nodes, and the Integration Framework (Object Structures, MIF, JMS/KAFKA queues).

4. Asset & Inventory Management (15%)

Learn to manage the complete lifecycle of your equipment. We highlight how to build Asset Hierarchies, manage downtime, and configure specific Meter types (Characteristic, Gauge, Continuous). We also cover Failure Codes and Reliability Strategies, alongside Inventory control processes like managing the Item Master, handling reservations, and utilizing mobile apps for Inventory Counting and Issues/Transfers.

5. Procurement & Contract Management (7%)

Follow the complete Requisition to Receipt flow. We explain the desktop and purchase requisition (PR) to purchase order (PO) lifecycle. Additionally, we detail how to set up specialized contracts, including Lease contracts (with buy-out options) and Warranty contracts that trigger warnings in the Work Order Tracking application.

6. Work Management & Planning (16%)

Discover how to optimize your maintenance routines. This section details how to create dynamic Job Plans using proportional calculation methods, set up condition monitoring points, and automate Preventive Maintenance (PM) generation. We will also highlight Work Order Intelligence, teaching you how to configure the AI Broker to deliver Watson-driven problem code recommendations based on work order descriptions.

7. Configure Maximo Scheduler (11%)

Master the art of scheduling and optimization. We differentiate between the applications meant for planners (Graphical Scheduling) versus dispatchers (Graphical Assignment). Furthermore, we introduce the Maximo Optimizer, explaining how to deploy optimization models to solve complex scenarios like capacity planning, spatial scheduling, and resource leveling.

8. Configure Service Management (6%)

Ensure top-tier customer and internal service by mastering the Service Request lifecycle—from NEW to QUEUED status. We will explore how to apply Ticket Templates and configure strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs), focusing on Commitments like Contact, Response, and Resolution across Customer, Internal, and Vendor types.

9. Configure Work Safety (4%)

Safety is paramount. In our final section, we cover the creation of Site-level Safety Plans and their association with Work Assets. You will learn how to identify hazards using NFPA ratings (Health, Flammability, Reactivity) and properly implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for specific locations and assets.
